What technology and tools are needed for the JOL Cohorts?

Modified on Thu, 19 Feb at 11:29 AM

The good news is that you really don't have to be too tech-savvy to participate in a cohort! Here is the run-down on the various tools we use to keep the community connected and how to navigate them.

The Joy of Living Online Website (joy.tergar.org)

This is your main dashboard for everything related to your cohort.

  • How to Access: Go to joy.tergar.org and log into your account.

  • Navigating: Once logged in, look at the right-hand menu. You should see a link for your specific cohort (e.g., "Level 2 Cohort 2026").

  • What’s there: Click that link to find buttons for joining the live sessions, watching session recordings, and accessing your course materials.

Zoom (Live Video Sessions)

Our weekly live sessions are hosted through Zoom.

  • Preparation: Make sure you have an updated version of Zoom on your computer, tablet, or phone. It is free to download and use.

  • The Tech Test: You can test if your Zoom is working by clicking "Join the Session" on your main cohort page at any time. If a Zoom window pops up, you’re all set!

  • Camera Etiquette: You aren’t strictly required to have your camera on, but it is highly encouraged. Seeing one another helps the guides and your fellow participants build a meaningful connection.

WhatsApp (Community Messaging)

WhatsApp is a free messaging app we use to create an additional sense of community outside of the live sessions.

  • How to Join: You can scan the QR code found on your main cohort page or click the WhatsApp link provided in your Welcome Email.

  • How to Use: Use this to exchange ideas, support fellow members, and receive real-time updates from the Tergar team.

Google Calendar (Integrated Schedule)

  • New Feature: We have embedded the Cohort Live Sessions Google Calendar directly on your main cohort page.

  • How to Use: You can click the button on the page to "Subscribe" or add this calendar to your own (Google, Apple, or Outlook). This will automatically sync all session dates, times, and Zoom links to your personal device.

World Time Buddy (Time Zone Management)

Because we are a global community, we recommend using World Time Buddy to convert the cohort's official start time into your local time zone.
