Initiations, or empowerments, are a central part of Tibetan Buddhism. Traditionally they're given face to face at the start of a formal practice. Mingyur Rinpoche wanted to keep that tradition while still offering most retreats online, so he gathered everything that has to be taught in person into the Path of Liberation Level 2 retreat. This includes the pointing-out instruction for Level 2, which is given only in person.
Where Level 2 is offered
To make it as accessible as he can, Rinpoche travels to offer the Path of Liberation Levels 1 & 2 retreat in person on every continent. See the current dates on Upcoming Path of Liberation Levels 1 & 2 In-Person Retreats.
If you can't travel
We understand this makes the Path of Liberation hard or impossible to continue for some students, and we're sorry about that. The in-person requirement comes from roughly a thousand years of tradition in which empowerments are given face to face.
In the meantime, you can keep practicing what you received in Level 1, and continue with Vajrayana Online courses that don't require Level 2.
